Hiroshima & Nagasaki Webinar
2020 marked the 75th commemoration of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended World War II in August 1945.
These were the only times nuclear weapons have been used during war. They caused widespread devastation and resulted in a legacy of radioactive contamination. While we practice social distancing in this time of the Coronavirus and grieve about the more than 200,000 people worldwide who have died of COVID-19 this year, it is less well-known that a similar number of people died in Japan from these atomic explosions.

Global Nuclear Awareness is an affiliate program and a strong focus of World Life Institute, an educational and humanitarian organization begun in 1987. During this Coronavirus pandemic, we must never forget about the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
John Hershey, an author, and journalist in post-war Japan, famously noted, “What has kept the world safe from the bomb since 1945 has not been deterrence, in the sense of fear of specific weapons, so much as it's been memory. The memory of what happened at Hiroshima.”
